The underlying messages in the game lay under the mechanics of the game, if the player gets unlucky with how the enemy team compositions attack you could lose a hero without much of a chance to react. Personally this is one of my favorite games, it has a simple but beautiful Gothic art style, well orchestrated soundtrack and a fresh take on turn based combat in a rpg. Or you'll hate it, but I like it, so its good enough for me. This game does everything in it's power to try to get you to hate it, but you will find yourself loving it for some reason. I don't mean "Oh, my 11 year old is as mature as a 13 year old, he can handle it," While I don't know your child, I definitely recommend waiting a bit before getting this game. You will hate this game for not helping you, for it's brutal difficulty, for it's seeming determination to break you down. You will hate this game and swear never to play it again.

This game takes your hand, warns you the ride will be bumpy, then throws you off a cliff. You should probably play this game anyway.

If you don't like a dark, cold, brutally realistic look at the physiological effects of fighting horrifying monsters, don't play this game. If you like not having to worry about your "heroes" going insane because you didn't give them enough torches, don't play this game. If you like winning, don't play this game. It is the most challenging non-Dark Souls game you will ever play. With this words, the greatest turn-based game of the last decade begins.
